About the London centre

Sindhi Community House, London

Sindhi Community House is the home of Holy Mission’s UK Centre. The activities at this centre have enabled individuals and families to come together as a community. Under the guidance and inspiration of revered Dada Ishwar Ji, remarkable progress has been achieved. Attendance as well as multifarious programmes and activities have significantly increased in the time since its inception. The activities of the Mission are primarily provided by volunteers from the community. Over the years, the range of activities provided by the Holy Mission has grown and apart from its spiritual activities, it is now successfully providing activities which take place on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and include: a homeopathy clinic, music and culture, dance and keep fit, health and well-being, bereavement support, day centre with luncheon facilities, to name a few.

It is not only the Sindhis of London but many from other parts of the world enjoying the fruits of the premises. Engagements and marriages in Mandir through Anand Karaj rites (in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib) have gained popularity among all sections of the community. People admire the sanctity, simplicity and grace of the occasion. A significant number of these marriages take place among families living both within and outside the U.K.

Bereavement support is one area of service that is indispensable. Traditional twelve day ceremony of Patth and prayers is simple and, in itself, a process of healing when the family gets involved. Members of the community volunteer to read the sacred text of the Guru as a labour of love. Likewise, a shorter seven day period is observed with Patth of Bhagvat Puran for the first anniversary of the deceased by those who wish to do so.

Children’s programmes and weekend classes inculcate a spirit of community love and togetherness within the children. With love and care of the parents and volunteers they are gently persuaded to learn Sindhi and attend dance, music and drama lessons. Cultural programmes are organised each year on a large scale to fulfil their creative urge. This service brings a much needed relief to parents, particularly those at work, content that their children are within safe confines, enjoying and learning at the same time. Besides individuals, Sindhi Community House lends its services to many other organisations. It is our privilege that this services of Mission are being put to such excellent use and their potential is being fully realised.

Since opening on the 25th December 1997, the new premises of Holy Mission have added to the dignity and grace of Sindhis not only of London but around the world. For overseas families living remotely from any place of worship and without facilities, Sindhi Community House of London is happy to undertake arrangements for congregational prayers and satsangs, as well as arrange for langar parsad on their behalf. Individual Ardas (prayer) can also be offered. Friends who would like to avail of this opportunity are requested to send details of the special day to be observed to our London address, or by email. The occasion can be a birthday, a wedding anniversary, a day of rememberance in the sacred memory of a beloved one or, for that matter, any reason.

The Mandir is open to the public seven days a week(9.00am - 3.00pm and 5.00pm - 9.00pm; closed outside these hours). All are very welcome to visit. If you would like to be shown the facilities, please contact us.
