Kolkata – the birth city of Holy Mission, renders true service to the under-privileged, poor and needy people. It was in this city during times of political, intellectual and economic foment that Dada Ishwar Balani focused on the soul and the spiritual life. Instead of making the spiritual journey something distant and impossible for most people to attain, he helped ordinary people to strive for union with God through contemplation and mysticism.

The Kolkata centre endeavours to not only uplift the people spiritually but also attempts to attend to their physical health problems. While prayers and satsangs are conducted daily, study classes which focus on the spread of general knowledge and religious studies are organised for children from the age groups of five to twenty.

A number of families get together in the Amrit Vela Mandir and participate in the kirtans which are conducted on a weekly basis. Celebrations of Sindhi festivals such as Cheti Chand (Sindhi New Year) etc. take place on a large scale, with both, the elderly and the young, actively participating in the programme of activities. Family events such as engagements, marriages and religious events held during passing away of loved ones are conducted for the social benefit of the Sindhi community. Apart from fulfilling the spiritual and welfare needs to the community, the Kolkata centre plays a pivotal role in fulfilling the humanitarian needs of the poor and distressed people through weekly sessions of feeding and distribution of clothing.
